We have studied the primary and secondary rays (a total of $1;100) in 100 Tc following thermal-neutron capture by the radioactive 99 Tc isotope. A fraction of these rays have been incorporated into the corresponding level scheme consisting of 36 levels in 100 Tc. The determined neutron separation energy (S n ) for 100 Tc is 6;765:20AE0:04 keV. By summing the cross sections of all ground-state transitions, we have obtained 21:37AE0:68 b as a lower limit of the thermal-neutron capture cross section for 99 Tc. We have also determined the capture cross section by examining the 540-and 591-keV rays in 100 Ru emitted following the À decay of 100 Tc. The inferred thermal-neutron capture cross section for 99 Tc is 22:8AE1:8 b.

“…Prominent groups are observed that correspond to the first and second excited states of 100 Tc at 172 and 200 keV, but there is absolutely no sign of a proton group corresponding to the third excited state shown in figure 1 at 223 keV. This group is not observed in the 60 degree spectrum of the present work either, nor in the earlier (d,p) measurements of Slater and Booth [9], though that work has worse resolution and background conditions. The reputed level at 223 keV in 100 Tc is thought to have a spin of 1 or 2, and so should have been easily populated in the (d,p) experiment.…”

Abstract. Analysis of measurements on the 99 Tc(n,γ) 100 and the Tc 99 Tc(d,p) 100 Tc reactions leads to the conclusion that the determination of the inferred total thermal neutron capture cross section from partial capture cross sections necessarily has a large uncertainty at this time due to lack of accurate knowledge about the 100 Tc level structure and decay scheme. A more precise value of the neutron binding energy of 100 Tc of 6764.85 ± 0.25 keV was determined from the energies of the primary γ-rays.

7-spectra and excitation functions of the ~~176 nT) l~176 reaction were measured in the 1.2-3.6MeV proton energy range by using thick, enriched targets, Ge(Li) and low energy photon (hyperpure Ge) spectrometers. These detectors were used in YTcoincidence experiments, too. Conversion electron spectrum measurements were performed by means of a superconducting magnet transporter Si(Li) spectrometer (SMS) at Ep =4MeV and multipolarities of some transitions have been determined. Based on the experimental results a level scheme of l~176 has been constructed. Level energies of l~176 were calculated on the basis of the parabolic rule, derived from the cluster-vibration model.Nuclear Reaction: l~176 nT), E= 1.2-4.0 MeV. Measured Ey, Is(E ), 77-coin, Ece, Ice, l~176 deduced levels, multipolarity of transitions, J, ~c. Enriched target. Van de Graaff accelerator, Ge(Li), hyperpure Ge low energy photon spectrometer (LEPS), superconducting magnet transporter Si(Li) spectrometer (SMS).
