The latest arrival hub location problem for cargo delivery systems with stopovers

Abstract: In this paper, we concentrate on the service structure of ground-transportation based cargo delivery companies. The transient times that arise from nonsimultaneous arrivals at hubs (typically spent for unloading, loading, and sorting operations) can constitute a significant portion of the total delivery time for cargo delivery systems. The latest arrival hub location problem is a new minimax model that focuses on the minimization of the arrival time of the last item to arrive, taking into account journey times… Show more

“…They are also common in the existing literature. A few exceptions are Hall (1989), incorporating the role of time zones in the designs; Yaman et al (2007), allowing stopovers; and , designing incomplete hub networks. Removal of some or all of these assumptions will render more realistic and more challenging future research directions.…”

“…Sim et al (2009) consider the p-hub center problem and allow stochasticity on the travel times. Other examples are Yaman et al (2007), where stopovers are incorporated; Yaman (2009), where a hierarchical hub network is designed; and and , where incomplete hub networks are allowed.…”

“…On this network, 81 cities are considered demand centres. We took 16 candidate sites for hub locations among these demand centres: the most populated and industrialized cities in Turkey suitable for hub location (Yaman et al, 2007). Figure 2 shows the geographical locations of the demand centres and candidate hub locations on a map of Turkey and Table 1 presents the names of the candidate hub locations.…”

“…Tan and Kara (2007) applied the latest arrival hub covering version to the cargo delivery sector in Turkey. Yaman et al (2007) incorporated multiple stopovers into the latest arrival hub centre model to determine vehicle routes.…”
