The Last Hunter-Gatherers and Early Farmers of the Middle Southern Buh River Valley (Central Ukraine) in Viii–v Mill. Bc

Abstract: A new series of 19 radiocarbon dates provides new insights on the human settlement activity in central Ukraine. The paper presents data from the Early Holocene until the establishment of Trypillian mega-sites in the late Vth mill. BC. Our new dates from a long sequence of the site of Melnychna Krucha refine the chronology of the Middle and Late Mesolithic and local ceramic-bearing “Buh-Dniester” culture. Additional dates were obtained on bones from Linear Pottery culture sites and Trypillian sites of stages A3… Show more

“…Since then, the Kyiv laboratory produced certain amount of conventional dates that are in a good correspondence with "old" chronology (Kotova, Tuboltsev, 2013;Tovkailo, 2014;Kotova, 2015). Some series of AMS dates were obtained for sites from the region under study (Kiosak, Salavert, 2018;Haskevych et al, 2019;Kiosak et al, 2020;Saile, 2020). Thus, the radiocarbon database became diversified.…”

“…Thus, their local chronologies are, to some extent, indicators of local climatic change and human response. A sequence of this type was studied recently on the Southern Buh river (Kiosak et al, 2020;Salavert et al, 2020).…”
