The large-scale environment of thermonuclear and core-collapse supernovae

Abstract: The new generation of wide-field time-domain surveys has made it feasible to study the clustering of supernova (SN) host galaxies in the large-scale structure (LSS) for the first time. We investigate the LSS environment of SN populations, using 106 dark matter density realisations with a resolution of ∼ 3.8 Mpc, constrained by the 2M++ galaxy survey. We limit our analysis to redshift z < 0.036, using samples of 498 thermonuclear and 782 core-collapse SNe from the Zwicky Transient Facility’s Bright Trans… Show more

“…Figure 49 also illustrates that the Zwicky Transient Facility (ZTF) would in principle be capable of observing a catalog of SN with high completeness for z\0:3. In fact, recently a first measurement of the clustering of both core collapse and type Ia SN was performed by ZTF (Tsaprazi et al 2022).…”

“…estimation methods are used, [94] exhibits a similar trend of density contrast in the various environments for SDSS galaxies. We confirm that the local geometric index successfully characterizes the environment by comparing the population fractions with earlier works in literature [64,75,94,95], and through visual assessment of the classified distributions. We are unable to analyse the environments of 3 grand-designs and 10 flocculents.…”

“…Such classifications have been used to study the environment of cosmological tracers (e.g. Leclercq et al 2016;Porqueres et al 2018;Tsaprazi et al 2022a). Kruuse et al (2019) further showed that photometric redshifts are positively correlated with filaments detected in spectroscopic galaxy observations.…”
