The Laptop Spare Parts Studying under Considering Users’ Repair Willingness

Abstract: With the development of science and technology, laptop becomes very popular. Laptop manufacturing firms are concerning how much spare parts they shall prepare to meet the demand of repairing. The quantities of spare parts are not only related to laptop life time, but also concern with users' repair willingness. We propose an approach to calculate the repair probability of laptop parts combined Poisson Process with users' repair willingness. In this study, the users' repair willingness relates laptop parts fail… Show more

“…The part replacement probability is also discussed by Lu & Wang (2015), who assume that the repair willingness of a customer decreases with the cumulative number of breakdowns the product as a whole has experienced in the past. Lu & Hjelle (2016) extend this idea by evaluating whether users will have their product repaired depending on both the number of past failures and the use time.…”

“…These papers are excluded from Table 11. Moreover, some authors apply their method to a real dataset, but without validation to the actual demand (e.g., Ghodrati & Kumar, 2005a,b;Kontrec et al, 2015), or evaluation relative to other methods (e.g., Ritchie & Wilcox, 1977;Jin & Liao, 2009;Lu & Wang, 2015). And in those cases were the methods are evaluated, we find that very different measures (e.g., inventory costs, Mean Absolute Deviation (MAD), Mean Squared Error (MSE), Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE)) and benchmark methods (e.g., current company policy, SBA, CR, SES, bootstrapping) are applied.…”

“…As discussed in our first paper [3], we assume that Part1, Part2 and Part3 are 3 parts of a laptop. λ 1 , λ 2 , and λ 3 are their breakdown rates, respectively.…”

“…We previously published a paper about laptop spare parts quantities in consideration of users' intentions, which considered the number of times the laptop has broken previously [3]. In this paper, we discuss another case: the users' intention influenced by how long ago the laptop was bought.…”
