The lanolin‐based oil plasticized polylactide: Thermal and chemical characteristics

Abstract: Bio‐based plasticizers are a significant replacement for petrochemical‐based plasticizers because they are from renewable resources. The plasticizing effect of lanolin‐based oil at a different concentration and as an additive on polylactide's thermal and chemical stability (PLA) was investigated. The thermal stability was assessed using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The plasticized PLA samples were also analyzed with a dynamic mechanical analyzer (DMA), X‐ray pow… Show more

“…Therefore, the PLA/plasticizer systems melted under a temperature lower than that of the neat PLA. The melting process of the samples showed two endothermic peaks 10,23,39 : the lower melting point of the neat PLA overlapped with its T cc , and only one melting point appeared on its DSC scan. The peak at low temperature was attributed to the melting of the original crystal with thinner lamellar thickness, whereas the main endothermic peak was caused by the melting of perfect crystal after rearrangement 39 .…”

“…The T cc of PLA also varied with the content changes in the plasticizer content 10,19,22 . For example, the T cc of PLA/plasticizer systems decreased from 125.19°C of neat PLA to 100.91°C when 9 wt% of PC4 was added to the pure PLA (Figure 3A).…”
