Globalization steers modern society and contributes significantly to the internationalization of higher education. new means of transport and communication expand educational and research opportunities worldwide and higher education is becoming a blossoming global industry. it is also seen as a vital part of national policy and the national economy because in today's fiercely competitive worldknowledge adds real value. in this environment, countries face a tough competition to be a magnet for world-class academics and the brightest students. in other words, they must make themselves academically attractive. therefore this article Leon Cremonini is a researcher at the Center for Higher Education Policy Studies (CHEPS) at the University of Twente, the Netherlands, studying quality assessment at the institutional and program level and accreditation. In this capacity he has participated in a number of projects aiding countries in Africa (Uganda), the Middle East (Yemen), and Vietnam, in the development of national quality assurance mechanisms and restructuring of their Ministries of Education. Cremonini is also interested in the debates on of globalization and its influence on the standing of higher education institutions and higher education systems worldwide.
