The karyotype analysis of Pistacia vera L. from Turkey

Abstract: A detailed karyotype analysis was developed for Pistacia vera L. grown in Turkey. In vitro roots obtained from mature seeds were used as plant material. The chromosome number of P. vera L. was found to be 2n = 30 at c-metaphase of mitosis cell investigated for all of the materials. Centromere type of all chromosomes were determinated as median, submedian, subtelocentric, telocentric and total lengths of chromosome pairs were found between 35.4 and 5.97 microm. An idiogram was constructed from the average chrom… Show more

“…These products could be a good source of anticholinesterase compounds (Hacıbekiroğlu et al 2015), and have antioxidant and urease inhibitory activity (Asghar Hatamnia et al 2015;Uddin et al 2015). Different studies evaluated species and subspecies of pistachios to find their ecological distribution and their karyotype (Ayaz & Namli 2009). Pistacia vera L. belonging to the Anacardiaceae family, is a small tree originally from Central Asia and the Middle east (Monastra et al 1987).…”

“…Chromosome numbers of the different Pistacia species are questionable and controversial due to the fact that poor chromosome counting protocols were used [10]; these protocols are hampered by the extremely small-sized chromosomes of Pistacia species and a few cell divisions were visible in a single root tip [21].…”
