“…The canyon fill shows a similar sequence of basal clastic sediments overlain by clays, dated as 16.5-16.3 Ma (Dellmour & Harzhauser 2012). This member is separated from the overlying Mid Badenian sediments by an unconformity (Adámek et al 2003) and is regarded as Early Badenian (according to our definition) in contrast to Dellmour & Harzhauser (2012). The basal siliciclastic sediments underlying the Grund Formation in the Carpathian Foredeep of Moravia represent the Early Badenian according to the nannoflora (Švábenická 2002;Tomanová-Petrová & Švábenická 2007).…”

“…Although the position of studied coarse grained deltas generally coincides with eastern wall of the Karpatian Iváň canyon (Dellmour & Harzhauser 2012), the studied deltas are not parts of the canyon infill. The top part of the canyon was eroded around the Early/Middle Miocene boundary, capped by marine marls during the subsequent early Middle Miocene transgression, and also the seismic data does not show the presence of deltaic foresets (see Dellmour & Harzhauser 2012). However, presence of this structure might have affected the predominant Neogene drainage system of the area (differential subsidence and more rapid formation of the accommodation space) and the actual position of the deltas.…”

“…(Brzobohatý & Cicha 1993). The study area is located above the Iváň canyon, which represents a shelf-indenting canyon that formed due to a combination of isostatic rebound along a terminating thrust front and sea-level change during the terminal Early Miocene/ Karpatian (Dellmour & Harzhauser 2012).…”

“…2). Seismic logs indicate a maximum thickness of up to 1000 m for the Laa Formation, which displays a general coarsening-upward trend (Roetzel and Schnabel, 2002;Adamek et al, 2003;Dellmour and Harzhauser, 2012).…”

“…The Laa Formation corresponds to the lower to middle Karpatian (17.2-16.5 Ma;Dellmour and Harzhauser, 2012) of the regional chronostratigraphic scheme of the Central Paratethys. Grunert et al (2012Grunert et al ( , 2010b) suggest a total range of 17.2 to 15.9 Ma for the Karpatian (Fig.…”
