“The Italian Study on Recovery 2” Phase 1: Psychometric Properties of the Recovery Assessment Scale (RAS), Italian Validation of the Recovery Assessment Scale

Abstract: Background: The achievement of recovery is related to the notion of developing personal potential and restoring a legitimate social role, even against the backdrop of mental illness limitations. It is still difficult to fully understand this highly subjective and dynamic process. Therefore, in order to test the recovery process, specific tools, still only marginally used in our country, are needed. “…Unsurprisingly, considering the overlap, the associations between PR-scale total scores and the CHIME dimensions were medium to large. This overlap is confirmed by the fact that some studies investigated PR-scale total scores in relation to CHIME dimensions in order to assess the convergent validity of a PR measure ( 21 , 25 , 30 , 31 , 40 , 41 , 49 ).…”

“…Personal recovery was assessed at the time of the analysis (September 2022) with the Recovery Assessment Scale (RAS), which proved to be strongly related to several aspects that play a decisive role in the road towards personal recovery, such as self‐esteem, empowerment and quality of life (Boggian et al, 2019). The RAS is a self‐administered scale consisting of 41 items, rated on a Likert‐scale from 1 (strongly disagree) to 5 (strongly agree).…”

“…It is a 41-item self-administered tool structured as a Likert scale from 1 (completely disagree) to 5 (completely agree), designed to assess perceived recovery in psychiatric patients. Five factors of recovery can be depicted as Personal Trust and Hope, Willingness to Ask for Help, Goal and Success Orientation, Dependence on Others, and Not being Dominated by Symptoms [ 4 , 35 ]. The Multidimensional Mentalizing Questionnaire (MMQ) measures the mentalizing processes.…”
