“…Within the confines of rare earth-gold compounds, full structural data via single-crystal analysis has only been reported for Nd 3 Au 4 (Fornasini & Saccone, 1994;Saccone et al, 1999). However, the phase has been preliminarily identified in Y-Au, Pr-Au, and Gd-Au, and suggested for Sm-Au systems (Saccone et al, 1996;Saccone, Maccio et al, 1997;Mazzone et al, 2009). While the majority of members within the structure type contain rare earth elements, the possibility of other active metal formation with gold has been confirmed with Ca 3 Au 4 (Henry & Weller, 1999), opening wider horizons for possible substitutions.…”

“…The structure itself has significantly more representatives and closely related phases due to various ternary compounds possible via anion mixing, and various crystallographically similar amalgams (Tambomino et al, 2015;McMasters et al, 1971). Certain R 14 Au 51 compounds (namely Nd 14 Au 51 and Pr 14 Au 51 ) have also been shown to have some form of phase width away from being strict line compounds (Saccone, Maccio et al, 1997;Saccone et al, 1999;Mazzone et al, 2009). Forming with a majority of the rare earths and gold, there is a full structural report available for every known R 14 Au 51 compound except Y 14 Au 51 .…”

“…At this point we need to mention that a phase of composition Pr 2 Au 3 Sn 6 was already reported by Mazzone et al during a study of the 870 K isothermal section of the Pr‐Au‐Sn phase diagram. Based on X‐ray powder diffraction data, a tetragonal body‐centered unit cell with a = 456.9(2) and c = 2589(1) pm was deduced and the Nd 2 Cu 3 Sn 6 type ( I 4 mm ) was assigned.…”

“…Nevertheless, this is the usual influence of the lanthanide contraction and is comparable to the many other series of ternary rare earth transition metal stannides. [1,3] At this point we need to mention that a phase of composition Pr 2 Au 3 Sn 6 was already reported by Mazzone et al [31] during a study of the 870 K isothermal section of the Pr-Au-Sn phase diagram. Based on X-ray powder diffraction data, a tetragonal body-centered unit cell with a = 456.9(2) and c = 2589(1) pm was deduced and the Nd 2 Cu 3 Sn 6 type (I4mm) was assigned.…”
