“…The keratinophilic species Myceliphthora ana• morph of Ctenomyces serratus and M. gypseumfulvum complex (among the most common species Snulle1 on th~ OCCJOn'ell« o/ fu"Ki úr a whut~ld 1 -G. Caretl4 ~tal isolated in this research) are found in soil all over the world ( 11 , 21 , 22). lnstead, Trichophyton gloriae has a limited geographic distribution (2,17). lt is also worth noting the apparent absence of Keratinomyces ajelloi, a species which we recorded in maize and rice field soils (8, 9).…”

“…Phylogenetic analyses revealed the presence of four previously described and four new species of Arthroderma among our 29 isolates recovered from wild rodents. Of the previously described species, three – A. quadrifidum (often referred to in the historical literature as T. terrestre ) ( Alteras 1966 , Smith et al 1969 , Knudtson & Robertstad 1970 , Houin et al 1972 , Hubálek et al 1979 , Mantovani et al 1982 , Gallo et al 2005 , Papini et al 2008 ), A. curreyi and A. cuniculi ( Knudtson & Robertstad 1970 , Hubálek et al 1979 , Chabasse et al 1987 ) – had been previously reported from various rodent species in Europe and North America, whereas we report A. crocatum from rodents for the first time.…”

“…Trichophyton gallinae is basically a parasite of gallinaceous birds (Knudtson, 1970, Londero, 1968, although infections have also been observed in ducks (Quaglio, 1959). Mammals are occasionally affected, and rare infections have been reported in human beings (Torres, 1956), dogs (Baude, 1943) and monkeys (Gordon, 1968).…”
