Abstract: The centennial of the Ising model marks a century of interdisciplinary contributions that extend well beyond ferromagnets, including the evolution of language, volatility in financial markets, mood swings, scientific collaboration, the persistence of unintended neighborhood segregation, and asymmetric hysteresis in political polarization.
