The implementation of green buildings is widely regarded as a primary solution for optimizing fuel consumption in the construction and housing sector. Through an examination of relevant research literature, the most prominent hindrances to the implementation and proliferation of green buildings in Saudi Arabia were identified. Furthermore, the present study employed the Fuzzy Decision-making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (FDEMATE) to prioritize the aforementioned obstacles via the Fuzzy Analytic Network Process (FANP), while the Decision Super model was utilized. The findings indicate that the primary criteria section identified marketing barriers as the most significant obstacle, with a weight of 0.213, followed by risk and cost barriers with a weight of 0.207, knowledge and information barriers with a weight of 0.195, government-related barriers with a weight of 0.193 and human resources barriers with a weight of 0.192, respectively, ranked from first to fifth. According to the study's analysis, marketing obstacles carried the most weight, followed by risk and cost obstacles, government obstacles, knowledge and information obstacles and resources obstacles. The country has not adequately promoted green building technology. According to experts in the field, this is the greatest obstacle to implementing environmentally friendly building practices.

Several materials have the ability to absorb, accumulate and transmit solar radiation to their surrounding environment. The thermal island effect and micro-climate of urban areas are subject to notable influence from the composition of materials within the city’s crust. The present investigation was carried out with the aim of assessing the impact of roofing and pavement materials’ properties on solar reflection and their potential to mitigate urban heat islands (UHIs). A study of an experimental nature was carried out on a total of 20 conventional materials that are commonly used in the construction of roofs, sidewalks, streets and rooftops in Ha’il, Saudi Arabia. The objective of the research was to investigate the impact of different urban surface materials on the rise of ambient air temperature in their vicinity. The present investigation aimed to assess the thermal performance of the specimens, with the purpose of ascertaining the impact of the thermophysical and radiative characteristics of the substances. The findings of the experiments indicate that the Solar Reflectance and temperature of the surrounding environment are primarily influenced by the color and substance of surface materials. Conversely, the texture’s condition has a comparatively minor effect. Both effective factors play an equally significant role in the overall mechanism of increasing the ambient air temperature. The results suggest that a significant proportion of the samples exhibit a maximum surface temperature exceeding 59.4°C, while concurrently displaying a Solar Reflectance Index and albedo <49%. Meanwhile, the implementation of green roofs composed of various types of vegetation, including grass, can effectively alleviate the UHI phenomenon.

The aim of this study is to model a relationship between the amount of the suspended sediment load by considering the physiographic characteristics of the Lake Urmia watershed. For this purpose, the information from different stations was used to develop the sediment estimation models. Ten physiographic characteristics were used as input parameters in the simulation process. The M5 model tree was used to select the most important features. The results showed that the four factors of annual discharge, average annual rainfall, form factor and the average elevation of the watershed were the most important parameters, and the multilinear regression models were created based on these factors. Furthermore, it was concluded that the annual discharge was the most influential parameter. Then, the stations were divided into two homogeneous classes based on the selected features. To improve the efficiency of the M5 model, the non-stationary rainfall and runoff signals were decomposed into sub-signals by the wavelet transform (WT). By this technique, the available trends of the main raw signals were eliminated. Finally, the models were developed by multilinear regressions. The model using all four factors had the best performance (DC = 0.93, RMSE = 0.03, ME = 0.05 and RE = 0.15).
