The Investigation on the influence of DMDHEU on the Wrinkle and Abrasion Resistance of Cotton Fabrics using Image Processing

Abstract: In this paper, the application of image analysis to assess the fabric wrinkle and abrasion resistance in order to compare with experimental methods is described. Three samples of cotton fabrics (plain) with different finishing treatments were tested. In the present work, employing an appropriate lighting method, sample images were captured by scanner, and then images prepared from samples were processed in MATLAB. Finally, the number which evaluates each mentioned property was achieved. The results compare wri… Show more

“…A more recent application of image analysis to assess the fabric wrinkle and abrasion resistance in order to compare with experimental methods is described in [23]. By employing an appropriate lighting method, sample images were captured by using a scanner; then, images prepared from samples were processed using MATLAB® in order to extract the pills from the background thus deriving a pilling grade.…”

“…The breakage criteria for the abrasion resistance test-the occurrence of the longitudinal entanglement of fibres on the fabric surface was not subjected to the instrumental method by the researchers because of difficulties in the precise recognition of this type of objects. The method of abrasion resistance presented by Naderpour et al [18] was based on changes in the brightness profile of sample images grabbed before and after the abrasion procedure. The subject of the investigation was a woven fabric with anti-wrinkling treatment.…”

“…Besides its original application in textile finishing (Tomasino 1992;Schindler and Hauser 2004;Naderpour et al 2009), DMDHEU and its derivates have been used for impregnation modification of wood (Emmerich et al 2019). DMDHEU monomers are manufactured during the synthesis of urea, glyoxal and formaldehyde, with two hydroxymethyl groups (-CH 2 -OH) being the reactive functional groups of this water-soluble molecule.…”
