Ammonia (NH3) in its aqueous solution form is used in various day‐to‐day applications such as laboratory reagents, fertilizers, household cleaning, etc. due to its solubility in water. Hence, it is extremely important to have a large‐scale sensing system to avoid unintended health hazards. In this paper, a printed washable TiO2 nanoparticle (NP) layer‐based sensing solution to detect evaporated ammonia from its aqueous solution has been demonstrated in this regard. The response has a range of 0.5 to 25% (w/v) and is found to be considerably linear in the low concentration level of the ammonia solution. The sensitivity is found to be 0.339/%. The sensor illustrates considerably easy fabrication, reusability, and gas adsorption on the sensing layer. Printed electrodes are employed on a flexible PET substrate with a washable sensing layer. It is observed that the longevity of the electrodes is considerably high. A maximum 7.5% variation in the response is observed for the re‐used sensor after washing. Further, it is found that the electrodes are stable enough to be used up to 4 months in ambient conditions. The sensor can be useful to monitor the leakage of NH3 solution in industrial complexes and also in households.This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

By using a distillation tower as the regenerator, the coefficient of performance (COP) of the ammonia-water absorption refrigeration cycle is calculated in this work. Two types of distillation towers, namely an equilibrium-stage tower with a total condenser and a packed-bed tower with a partial condenser, are used in the cycle. From the simulation results, it is found that both types of distillation towers can successfully increase the COP of the cycle due to increased ammonia concentration in the vapor phase of the ammonia-water refrigerant. It was also found that the tower equipped with a partial condenser provides higher COP than that of the tower equipped with a total condenser. The value of COP can be further increased when the generator is replaced by the packed-bed tower in this water-ammonia absorption cycle. The effects of the mass flow rate ratio of NH 3 /H 2 O, stage number, reflux ratio and energy duty of the tower on the COP of the cycle are also studied in the present paper.
