The Intraseasonal Variations of the Leading Mode of Summer Precipitation Anomalies in Meiyu Area of East Asia

Abstract: The intraseasonal variations of summer precipitation anomalies in the Meiyu area of East Asia are analyzed by applying a combined empirical orthogonal function (CEOF) of the latest meteorological reanalysis data ERA5 of European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts for the period from 1991 to 2020, and the circulation structures and sources of variability of CEOF are also investigated. The first mode of the intraseasonal variations shows an in-phase pattern over the Meiyu area in June, July, and August, a… Show more

“…A notable increase in R99p (R99pF) was observed, at a rate of 43.23% (47.3%), during P2. In addition, South Korea exhibited salient intraseasonal variability; therefore, there was a need to divide the summer season into monthly segments (Ha and Oh 2019;Jia et al 2022;Ren et al 2022). The monthly average precipitation was the highest in July (8.99 mm/day), followed by August (8.55 mm/day), and June (5.26 mm/ day) (Table 4).…”
