The interplay between bone and vessels in pediatric CKD: lessons from a single-center study

Abstract: We show that the greater the serum levels of calcium, the greater the (diastolic and mean) blood pressure; moreover, the greater the Tb. Th, the greater the (diastolic and mean) blood pressure. The role of calcium supplements to explain such findings in early pediatric CKD can be discussed.

“…We previously showed in our Vitados cohort a signi cant proportion of calcium de ciency, the median (range) calcium intake in this cohort indeed being of 812 (132-1382) mg [22]. Using the same HR-pQCT technique in the 32 adolescent from Lyon included in the 4C study (median GFR of 33 mL/min per 1.73m 2 ), we already provided reassuring data concerning bone health in these children with moderate CKD, and, again tightly controlled mineral biomarkers (median PTH 1.2 ULN) [14].…”

“…Preka et al. 32 demonstrated that trabecular thickness by high-resolution pQCT was positively associated with diastolic and mean arterial BP. The second study, by Ziolkowska et al.…”

“…There is a paucity of studies examining bone and cardiovascular status in children and young adults with CKD. Preka et al demonstrated that trabecular thickness by high resolution-pQCT (HR-pQCT) was positively associated with diastolic and mean arterial BP [ 135 ]. Ziolkowska et al showed that cIMT correlated with lumbar spine BMD and total body DXA [ 136 ].…”
