The Internet of Things Space Infrastructure. Current State and Development Prospects

Abstract: This chapter presents an overview of possibilities for existing Satellite Communication Systems utilization to provide Internet of Things Services. It is shown that existing Satellite Communication Systems provide traffic transmission for Internet of Things Systems with Cloud Architecture. The propositions on possibility of Fog and Edge computing implementation in Satellite Communication Systems are proposed. The ways for Low-Earth Orbit and Geostationary Orbit Satellite Communication Systems modernization for… Show more

“…Modern SATCOM systems facilitate the data transmission of IoST systems based mostly on cloud technology. IoST systems' cloud architecture has the problem of requiring the transmission of all information from IoST to cloud computing data centers and vice versa, which causes SATCOM systems to operate inefficiently [114].…”

“…The disadvantage of Satellite Broadband Systems (SBS) is its targeting of providing a multipurpose service that does not consider the IoT peculiarities. In paper [1], the current state analysis is presented, and the development prospects for the IoT systems in LEO and geostationary orbit (GEO) are indicated. The narrow-band specialization presents the disadvantage of highly dedicated satellite systems based on the narrow-band IoT protocols: NB-IoT and LoRaWAN.…”
