The insect pathogenic fungus Verticillium lecanii (Zimm.) Viegas and its use for pests control: a review

Abstract: Chemical insecticides play an important role in the control of plant damage and plant diseases. However, extensive use of these products has led to the disruption of ecosystems because of several reasons such as death of non-target species, accumulation of pesticide residues in the environment and food, and buildup of pesticide resistance in the target species. Biological control is one of the alternatives to chemical pesticides and it can be described as the limitation of the abundance of living organisms and… Show more

“…Functionalization of MCM-41 was performed by the hydroxyl group of entomopathogenic fungus. Some studies have revealed the efficacy of L. lecanii in pest control (Ghaffari et al, 2017;Alavo, 2015;Schreiter et al, 1994;Ramanujam et al, 2017). Our findings confirm L. lecanii pathogenicity against adults of B. brassicae so it will be an efficient candidate for integrated B. brassicae management strategies.…”

“…Otra especie de hongos entomófagos más comunes e importantes en el control de trips es Verticillium lecanii, es compatible con la mayoría de insecticidas y algunos fungicidas (Khalil et al, 1985). Sin embargo, su eficacia depende de la alta humedad y de la temperatura, ya que, estos factores inciden en la esporulación y germinación de conidios, lo que limita su uso (Alavo, 2015).…”

“…And that the termite insect is difficult to reach its nests which located under the soil surface, and that spraying the spores of the fungus on the surface of wood and the stems of plants may be more important and effective than spraying the body of the insect (Fernandez et al, 2001;Vandervalk, 2007). Alavo (2015) indicated that V. lecanii is a Deuteromyces fungus used to protect plants from many pests, that V. lecanii can be grown on all living and dead matter (Schuler, 1991), and that V. lecanii is effective on termites groups Captotermes formosanus.…”
