The inhibitory subunit of cardiac troponin (cTnI) is modified by arginine methylation in the human heart

Abstract: BackgroundThe inhibitory subunit of cardiac troponin (cTnI) is a gold standard cardiac biomarker and also an essential protein in cardiomyocyte excitation-contraction coupling. The interactions of cTnI with other proteins are fine-tuned by post-translational modification of cTnI. Mutations in cTnI can lead to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Methods and ResultsHere we report, for the first time, that cTnI is modified by arginine methylation in human myocardium. Using Western blot, we observed reduced levels of cTn… Show more

“…It has been suggested previously that MDA is used as a biomarker of lipid peroxidation in biological samples [29]. cTnI is a gold standard myocardial biomarker, and it is also an important protein in cardiomyocyte excitation-contraction coupling [30]. A study has The apoptosis rate of cardiomyocytes in each group.…”

“…The PRMT family members have pivotal roles in regulating heart diseases (Beltran-Alvarez et al, 2013;Pyun et al, 2018;Onwuli et al, 2019). Among all these PRMTs, PRMT5 is an arginine methyltransferase responsible for symmetric dimethylation (Branscombe et al, 2001), and is closely involved in cardiac hypertrophy according to our previous observations (Chen et al, 2014;Cai et al, 2020).…”

“…CTnI is an ideal cardiomyocyte-specific marker, and also one of the crucial indicators for the clinical diagnosis of myocardial injury. It is a regulatory protein that only exists in the myocardium and plays an essential role in myocardial contraction and relaxation [ 15 ]. Recently, mitochondrial production has been closely related to the regulation of mitochondrial functions, of which PGC-1 may be a key regulator.…”
