The design of automotive human–machine interfaces (HMIs) for global consumers’ needs to cater to a broad spectrum of drivers. This paper comprises benchmark studies and explores how users from international markets—Germany, China, and the United States—engage with the same automotive HMI. In real driving scenarios, N = 301 participants (premium vehicle owners) completed several tasks using different interaction modalities. The multi-method approach included both self-report measures to assess preference and satisfaction through well-established questionnaires and observational measures, namely experimenter ratings, to capture interaction performance. We observed a trend towards lower preference ratings in the Chinese sample. Further, interaction performance differed across the user groups, with self-reported preference not consistently aligning with observed performance. This dissociation accentuates the importance of integrating both measures in user studies. By employing benchmark data, we provide insights into varied market-based perspectives on automotive HMIs. The findings highlight the necessity for a nuanced approach to HMI design that considers diverse user preferences and interaction patterns.

The use of Voice Assistants (VA) in both commercial and personal contexts has experienced significant growth, emphasizing the importance of assessing their user experience (UX) for long-term viability. Currently, the development of appropriate scales that capture user viewpoints after interacting with a system has become a popular method for measuring UX of the Graphical User Interface (GUI) systems. However, the applicability of these scales that are meant for GUI systems on VA is still questionable, hence the need for analyzing the nature of previous scales used for measuring UX of VA. Additionally, in order to keep track of the state of UX research in the VA domain, it is crucial to understand the dimensions of UX that are being utilized. In this study, a comprehensive Systematic Literature Review (SLR) was carried out to identify 21 individual scales used for measuring UX of VA. Furthermore, this study present the evaluation criteria for assessing the rigor of operationalization during the development of these scales. The study analysis reveals that the scales used for measuring UX of VA extends beyond the traditional VUDA (value, usability, desirability, adoptability) principles and incorporates novel aspects such as anthropomorphism and machine personality. Future VA UX researchers should also acknowledge the variations in the rigorous measures employed during scale development, notwithstanding some common and accepted practices. Consequently, an overview is provided, along with suggestions for prospective studies in the field of VA UX research.

The modern cultural industry and the related academic sectors have shown increased interest in Cultural User eXperience (CUX) research, since it constitutes a critical factor to examine and apply when presenting cultural content. Recent CUX studies show that visitors tend to carry their own cultural characteristics and preferences when visiting destinations of cultural interest, thus obtaining a virtually unique experience. To cope with this tendency, various research efforts have been made to identify different profiles of cultural visitors based on their background and preferences and classify them into distinct visitor types. In this paper, we proposed the ACUX (Augmented Cultural User eXperience) typology for classifying visitors of cultural destinations. The proposed typology aims to provide the multi-profile classification of cultural visitors based on their visiting preferences. Methodology-wise, the ACUX typology was the output of a harmonisation process of existing cultural-visitor typologies that base their classification on visiting preferences. The proposed typology was evaluated in juxtaposition with the harmonised typologies from which it was derived through an experiment conducted using a recommender and a dataset of TripAdvisor user responses. The evaluation showed that the ACUX typology achieved a more accurate profiling of cultural visitors, enabling them to reduce information overload by directly suggesting content that is more likely to meet their diverse preferences and needs.
