The Influence of Various Concentrated Cherry (Muntingia Calabura) Extract in Preventing Lactobacillus Acidophilus in Vitro

Abstract: Background: Dental caries is a multifactorial illness caused by bacteria. Lactobacillus acidophilus is one of the bacteria causing caries, where it continues the caries process. That is why the antibacterial agent is needed. A cherry (Muntingia calabura) is fruit having many benefits for health, which one of them is as an antibacterial agent. It contains flavonoid, tannin, alkaloid, and terpenoid, which can function as the antibacterial agent.  Aim :The study aimed to determine the influence of cherry (Munting… Show more

“…Lactobacillus acidophilus is a gram-positive bacteria that is non-motile or non-spore, producing lactic acid which can be identified in the saliva of caries sufferers. These bacteria are considered as initiator microorganisms in the process of caries formation, especially in the dentin area (Gumilar et al, 2022;Nurhalisa et al, 2020). The aim of this research was to determine the effectiveness of the antibacterial test of a mint leaf extract (Mentha piperita L) mouth spray against Lactobacillus acidophilus bacteria.…”

“…These bacteria are rarely found before the onset of caries. This bacterium is suspected of being the bacteria that initiates the caries process, especially when it reaches dentinal caries (Nurhalisa et al, 2020).…”

“…The plaque layer is formed due to the attachment between bacteria and the attachment of bacteria to the tooth surface (Yu et al, 2017). One of the cariogenic bacteria that causes caries is Lactobacillus acidophilus which is a gram-positive bacterium that produces lactid acid from carbohydrate metabolism (Nurhalisa et al, 2020;Kunarti et al, 2020).…”
