“…This type of clinical intervention aims to increase psychological flexibility by working on aspects of acceptance and awareness. Similarly, mindfulness-based interventions may be also appropriate for pwMs, as trait mindfulness mediates the relationship between illness intrusiveness and depression in PwMS (Miller et al, 2020 ).…”

“…Some previous studies that successfully addressed treatment mechanisms of MBI's in PwMS have used similarly small samples (e.g., [58], N = 40). However, other successful work that has focused on mediation analyses was based on considerably larger data bases (e.g., [34]), N = 755). Given this heterogeneity of sample sizes in the literature and considering the replication of positive findings in the cross-sectional analyses of the current work, it may be suggested to repeat this specific analysis of the current work using a larger sample.…”

“…Recently, it has been suggested that the treatment mechanisms of MBIs in PwMS ought to be examined by obtaining information about the complex interrelations of commonly examined primary outcome variables (e.g., depression, fatigue, trait mindfulness) in context of mediation analyses [34,35]. It has been suggested that a reduction of fatigue through mindfulness training might be primarily attributable to a reduction of depressive symptoms [35].…”

“…CBT has been found to have moderate effects on depression and stress reduction for PwMS (Hind et al, 2014; Reynard et al, 2014). Mindfulness has been associated with improvements in well‐being (Campbell & Pakenham, 2022; Han, 2021; Simpson et al, 2019), depression (Miller et al, 2020), anxiety, fatigue and sleep disturbances (Pagnini et al, 2019), emotion dysregulation (Schirda et al, 2020) and physical and cognitive fatigue (De la Torre et al, 2020). Assessments of the effectiveness of acceptance and commitment therapy (Pakenham et al, 2018), psychoeducation and supportive therapy and counselling (Topcu et al, 2020), or an the integration of these approaches (Molton et al, 2019), concludes that slight but significant improvements in quality of life, adjustment and coping with MS are evident.…”
