The influence of the synthesis conditions on the magnetic behaviour of the densely packed arrays of Ni nanowires in porous anodic alumina membranes

Abstract: The densely packed arrays of Ni nanowires of 70 nm diameter and 6–12 μm length were obtained via electrodeposition into porous alumina membranes (PAAMs) of 55–75 μm thickness.

“…However, among these materials, only nanostructured porous alumina is insoluble in organic solvents, resistant to high temperatures, and its geometric characteristics can be easily adjusted by the synthesis conditions changing [ 17 ]. However, only this template is considered as the most relevant for the structures based on NWs’ integration into silicon technologies in a microelectronic production [ 15 , 18 , 19 , 20 , 21 , 22 , 23 ].…”

“…The deposition of ferromagnetic materials into the pores of the templates makes it possible to create macroscopically large areas of irregular and quasi-regular magnetic nanoscale elements: nanodots, nanopillars, nanowires [ 19 , 20 , 21 , 22 , 23 , 24 ]. In this case, the collective modes of the ferromagnetic quasiperiodic structure play an essential role in the mechanisms of an interaction of the magnetic field with the samples.…”

“…Using this technique, the properties of the NWs can be easily tailored [ 17 , 18 ] to adapt them to specific applications. In particular, taking advantage of their elongated shape, the magnetic properties of metallic NWs can be controlled just by tailoring their shape and composition [ 19 , 20 ]; this has been, for example, recently exploited in the fabrication of corrosion resistant composites [ 21 ], magnetoelectric nanocomposites [ 22 ] and bonded magnets [ 23 ]. In spite of having some promising performance, there are few NW-based magnetic applications on the market, due to the lack of a growth protocol allowing the fabrication of the large amounts of NWs needed to prepare a composite, preventing the transition from the laboratory proof of concept toward the industrial scale to take place.…”

“…The oppertunity of obtaining ZnO in nanostructured form is extremely interesting because the nanostructured morphology allows electrodes with higher surface area and thus higher reactivity to be fabrciated. These properties are of great importance in many applications, especially for batteries [43,44], electrolyzes [45][46][47], solar cell [48,49], magnetic devices [50,51] and sensors [52][53][54][55]. In this work we explored the possibility of using electrochemically obtained ZnO nanorods (ZnO-NRs) as a basis for the fabrication of immunosensors for human immunoglobulin G (H-IgG).…”
