The influence of the order between resistance and stretching exercises on the hemodynamic response

Abstract: The present study compared the acute effect of different combinations of resistance training (RT) and static stretching (SS) on the heart rate (HR), rate pressure product (RPP) and oxygen saturation (SpO2) of participants. This is a cross-over methodological design carried out in five visits on nonconsecutive days, which always occurred at the same time of day. Twelve trained young men were randomly divided, using counterbalanced and alternate assignments, into three experimental situations: a) horizontal abdu… Show more

“…The two previous studies that assessed the acute effects of SE and SE+RE on hemodynamic responses were conducted by Da Silva et al ( 2019) and Souza et al (2019). Both studies involved a group of volunteers who performed 6 SE (pectoral, dorsal, deltoids, quadriceps, hamstrings, and gluteus) followed by 6 RE (bench press, front pull up, shoulder press, leg press 45, leg extension, and Leg curl machine) (Da Silva et al, 2019;Souza et al, 2019). In Da Silva et all.…”

“…The interaction between different combinations and sequences of RE and SE on acute cardiovascular responses has been explored in a series of elegant studies studies (G. da S. Araujo et al, 2019;G. S. Araujo et al, 2018;Costa e Silva et al, 2019;da Silva et al, 2019;Santos et al, 2014;SOUSA et al, 2019). reported increased acute cardiovascular responses when SE was combined with RE, assessed using the double product.…”

“…The physical fitness components involve body composition, aerobic profile, as well as neuromotor and neuromuscular conditioning (GARBER et al, 2011). Strength and flexibility training, when performed in conjunction, highlight researchers' interest in neuromuscular performance (FIGUEIREDO et al, 2016;GOMES et al, 2011;PAZ et al, 2012;RIBEIRO et al, 2014;SÁ et al, 2015) and cardiovascular effects (ARAUJO et al, 2019;COSTA e SILVA et al, 2019;da SILVA et al, 2019;SANTOS et al, 2014). Stretching exercises (SE) have been widely performed before physical and sports activities by both physical exercise practitioners and athletes.…”
