This study aims to analyze the determinants of human resources reflected by the Human Development Index (HDI) in West Kalimantan Province, Indonesia. In this study, 14 regencies/cities in West Kalimantan Province served as the research object. The data were secondary from the Central Bureau of Statistics of West Kalimantan Province from 2017-2021. The analysis tool combined the panel data method with a fixed-effect model approach. Based on the analysis, while the poverty variable negatively and significantly affected HDI, HDI was favorably and strongly impacted by the variables per capita expenditure, unemployment, and gross regional product (GDP). For the government, it is recommended to make policies, such as providing capital to MSME actors, farmers, fishermen, and others, to develop their businesses and boost productivity and people's welfare

The aim of this publication is to analyze the value of the number of new cases and deaths from COVID-19 in selected European Union countries: Poland, France and Belgium. Research Design & Methods: Data were collected from the on-line database: https://covid.ourworldindata.org/ data/owid-covid-data.xlsx, which demonstrate the daily number of new cases and deaths due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The forecast was based on a linear trend function and a 7-period moving average, using Statistica 13 software. Findings: The test results facilitated an evaluation of the diversity in the number of cases and the number of deaths in the assessed countries. Implications & Recommendations: From the obtained results, it can be concluded that the pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus will end in 2021, about a year after the first case that appeared in Europe, provided that the vaccines are also effective against the mutated form of the virus. Implications & Recommendations: Based on the results obtained by China, where the pandemic ended after a year, it can be assumed that EU countries will also win the fight against Covid-19 at a similar time provided that the vaccines are also effective against the mutated forms of the virus. This is indicated by the results of research obtained in this paper. However, it should be remembered that the pandemic is unpredictable and it is difficult to predict the values of variables for a longer period of time.Contribution & Value Added: The article indicates the methods of combating Covid-19 in selected countries of the European Union.

Purpose The study examines the impact of socio-economic governance on economic growth in Nigeria. It measures socio-economic governance from the perspective of fiscal policy, using indicators such as investment in education, research and development (R&D) and health.Design/methodology/approach This study employs the Autoregressive Distributive Lag (ARDL) Bound Testing method to achieve its objective.Findings The study finds that socio-economic policies aimed at increasing investment in education are crucial for Nigeria’s long-term economic growth. Additionally, investment in R&D positively impacts economic growth. However, the study reveals that investment in health negatively affects economic growth in Nigeria in the long run. This suggests that if a country overinvests in health, it may divert resources from other vital sectors such as education, infrastructure and R&D, which can hinder overall economic growth. The short-run parameter is, however, not statistically significant in this study.Originality/value The study’s originality lies in its exploration of the relationship between socio-economic governance and economic growth in Nigeria, specifically from a fiscal policy perspective. It highlights the importance of investing in education and R&D for long-term economic growth. Additionally, the finding that overinvestment in health may have a negative impact on long-term economic growth provides valuable insight for policymakers in Nigeria and other developing countries. Overall, this study’s findings can be beneficial for policymakers and researchers interested in the intersection between socio-economic governance and economic growth in developing countries.
