The Influence of Some Dentin Primers on Calcium Hydroxide Lining Cement

Abstract: Dentin primer is applied as a routine procedure prior to bonding to improve the sealing properties of direct polymerizing resins. Some primers contain acetone or alcohol that may affect the properties of calcium hydroxide liner which is placed as a direct or indirect pulp cap. If calcium hydroxide is softened or smeared over the cavity walls, the bonding will be impaired. Therefore, if this occurs, the cement must be removed, the walls must be cleansed, and the procedure must be repeated with careful applicati… Show more

“…Incomplete setting may also explain the lack of significant increase in compressive strength between 48 h and 7 days. For Dycal, whilst no previously published data on flexural testing were available, compressive strength was within the range of previously reported values (El‐Araby & Al‐Jabab , Louwakul & Lertchirakarn ).…”

“…The low mechanical properties of Dycal are explained by the fact that the chelate that forms its matrix is linked by secondary bonds (El‐Araby & Al‐Jabab ). The mechanical behaviour of Biodentine has been explained by the purity of the tricalcium silicate, without aluminates that may increase brittleness (Septodont ).…”

“…An earlier study evaluated the effects of dentin primers and application time on compressive strength and erosion of the calcium hydroxide lining material Dycal (Dentsply/DeTrey, Konstanz, Germany). Increased application time increased erosion and decreased the compressive strength of material containing calcium hydroxide (31). This situation may be a consequence of the resin monomer in Panavia F 2.0 eroding the calcium hydroxide-based sealer that occludes dentin tubules.…”

“…2007). The effect of phosphoric acid, which is used to increase the retention and sealability of composite resin restorations, on the properties of pulp capping and root repair materials is a fundamental problem and one that could affect their durability and effectiveness (El‐Araby & Al‐Jabab 2005).…”
