The Influence of Refining History of Waste NSSC Paper on its Recyclability

Abstract: The effects of refining history and recycling times of NSSC pulp as a representative of semi-chemical pulps were studied. The results indicated that NSSC behaved as would be expected for a chemical pulp in all aspects. In fact, increasing the recycling cycles decreased the apparent density, tensile index, burst index, tear index, water retention value (WRV), and increased the hornification. In the current research, 400 mL CSF was judged to be the most suitable treatment among the refining levels considered. In… Show more

“…It is affected by different factors, e.g., quantity and quality of bonding (especially the fiber/fiber and fiber/fine bonds). Similarly, the tear strength is a critical property for most paper applications and is related to the fiber length, inherent fiber strength, and bonding quality among the fibers (Kermanian et al 2013). If the average fiber length and inherent fiber strength are assumed to be constant, then the role of the fibers and fines bonding will be the determining parameter.…”

“…The tear index has a significant role in the ability of paper to pass through the papermaking machine and go through the converting process. The fundamental factors affecting the tear index are the fiber length, the inherent fiber strength, the bonding ability of the fibers, and the fiber orientation in sheet (Kermanian et al 2013). Generally, in pulps with low bonding ability, such as mechanical pulps, tear strength can be improved by increasing the surface bonding.…”

“…Therefore, wet end additives in the papermaking process have little effect on the individual fiber strength. However, chemical treatments, such as wet end additives, can influence the distribution of fibers and the bonding capabilities (Kermanian et al 2013). As demonstrated in Fig.…”

“…Автори розроблення технології відзначають, що непрозорість паперу-основи масою 50 г/м 2 становить 75-76% (на графіках не наведено), тобто перебуває на рівні наповненого пергаменту. Слід також зазначити: білість ненаповненого пергаменту становить у середньому 75-76%, тоді як наповненого -80-82% [197,256].…”
