The influence of plate corrugations geometry on plate heat exchanger performance in specified process conditions

Abstract: The mathematical model of plate heat exchanger (PHE) is developed using decomposition of the plate on its main corrugated field, which cause major effect on heat transfer, and distribution zone, which influences mostly the hydraulic performance. Model is validated on experimental data for some commercial plates. It is shown, that for specified pressure drop, temperature program and heat load the geometrical parameters of plate and its corrugations, which are enable to make PHE with minimal heat transfer area, … Show more

“…This range covers the most of the possible conditions for PHE applications in process industries, as well as feasible options of corrugations on the PHE plates. Together with Equations for estimation of local pressure drop in channel distribution zones and ports (as discussed in paper [21]) the presented Equations allow to develop the thermo hydraulic mathematical model of PHE. Such model can be used for optimization of PHEs channels geometry for different conditions in the process industries.…”

“…For different plates there were obtained the values of such coefficients from 25 to 110. Arsenyeva et al (2013) have used this value for commercial plates modelling, considering the construction of distribution zones in these four plates of Table 5.1 as more preferable for reproduction in process of new plate development. For those plates the ratio of the length of corrugated field L F to effective plate length L EF used in calculations of ζ DZ was equal to 0.72.…”

“…Although originally invented for use in hygienic industries such as brewing and dairy processing [1], plate heat exchangers are also widely used to recover heat from the jacket water of a gas engine for a cogeneration system, as shown in Fig. 1 [2].…”
