“…From the perspective of SCCT, contextual factors such as the respondents' support system (e.g., parents, teachers) may provide insulation from barriers such as COVID-19 and unemployment rates resulting in confidence in career attainment (Lent, 2013). The results of previous research suggest that parents are perceived as having a beneficial impact on college students' career decision-making (Craig et al, 2018;Workman, 2015) and may even decrease career barriers (Raque et al, 2013) In contrast to these relatively positive attitudes, the switch to online instruction was viewed unfavorably by most respondents. Similarly, in Baloran's study (2020), many of the 530 students surveyed from two private colleges in the Philippines also perceived as negative the change to online instruction due to the pandemic.…”

“…A study from Duke University shows that women often are the minority in STEM-related classes and they experience a sense of loneliness [7]. Craig et al [25] used the narrative research method to study parents' influence on students' employment in STEM, and the result shows that people who were guided and cultivated by parents at a younger age would access STEM-related job opportunities from multiple paths. At the societal level, social and cultural norms also have a strong impact on the roles of women and men play in society.…”

“…These include after‐school enrichment activities, secure and pleasant residential milieu, and quality time for parents to spend with their children, contributing to moral education and motivation for success (Kasinitz et al., ; Remennick, ). Accordingly, research indicates positive associations between family support, encouragement, involvement, and student efficacy and learning experiences (Tang et al., ; Turner et al., ; Navarro et al., ; Craig et al., ). Researchers have observed generational transmissions of engineering, technical, or medical careers from parents to children (Turner et al., ; Herrera and Hurtado, ).…”
