The influence of mycotoxins in food on fish health status

Abstract: In our country, there is present extensive, semi-intensive and intensive growing of cyprinid fish species. The quality of food is an essential prerequisite for obtaining optimal production results in fish production. Fish food is being produced as a complete pellet meal, and raw materials used are of plant, animal, mineral and vitamin origin. Out of plant feed, the most commonly used ones are corn, wheat, barley, oats, soy and others. By applying additional carbohydrate food, energetic needs of an organism are… Show more

“…Jakić-Dimić et al (2005) [ 25 ], analyzed 43 samples of raw materials (corn, wheat and barley), used as ingredients for fish feed and found levels of aflatoxin B1 contamination ranging from 5 to 40 µg∙kg −1 .…”

“…In Serbia, zearalenone, ochratoxin A and aflatoxin B 1 were detected in corn, wheat and barley destined for fish feed production. The authors recorded particularly high levels of zearalenone in corn (mean of 5.3 mg/kg) [41]. In Brazil, aflatoxin B 1 was detected, although in low doses (1.1 µg/kg to 7.4 µg/kg), in samples of soybean bran, corn bran and other cereals from fish farms [42].…”
