The Influence of Knowledge Visualization on Externalizing Tacit Knowledge

Abstract: The process of teaching and learning suffers from poor conceptualizations of tacit knowledge to be explicit. This paper interprets and externalizes lecturer tacit knowledge based on knowledge visualization approach. Externalization process is a process of converting tacit knowledge such as ideas and experiences into written form so that it can be transferrred to the students. Thus knowledge visualization is used as an approach to externalize lecturer tacit knowledge through teaching material to be shared among… Show more

“…A significant difference is found in criterion 1 visual know-how. This finding correlates with Setchi [18] and Ahmad [19] who states that hypermedia for maintenance manual will improve visual knowledge that impacts on a better understanding. Colaso [20] had compared the effect of visualization, text and mixed method toward information retention.…”

“…Previous research proposed a set of validated KV guidelines towards the theory and practice of using KV in teaching and learning [9]. Effective KT from teachers to learners influence learners' performance and satisfaction [2]. Figure 1 shows the difference in the marks of learners before and after the brief on usability-based knowledge visualization guidelines.…”

“…To aid this role, teachers use their proficiency to choose and use teaching materials such as lecture notes, textbooks, multimedia tools etc. [2], while learners are expected to engage with these study materials. Teachers often employ specific strategies to create and transfer knowledge, and one such technique is visualization [3,4].…”

“…Using internet has resulted in a significant improvement in students' performance; however, the issues related to the use of the internet and its impact on students' academic performance has recently been raised and hotly debated (Khan et al, 2016; Mueen et al, 2016). One way of determining such impact is by discovering the knowledge from relevant educational data in order to study the main associated attributes (Ahmad et al, 2011; Alqahtani & Mohammad, 2015; Palao et al, 2015). Although the handling of huge and massive amounts of educational data is challenging, the presence of educational data mining (EDM), which is considered as an emerging analysis and predictive tool (Al‐Barrak & Al‐Razgan, 2016; Mat et al, 2013; Matatov et al, 2010; Singh et al, 2020) acquires a great deal of attention and utilization.…”
