“…The suppressed penetration of slag could be partly due to the improvement of the microstructure of the substrate, since the decreased porosity by spinel bonding could lead to the reduction of sucking pressure. [13] The presence of Al 2 O 3 in the spinel phase plays another important role in improving the penetration resistance. This role is evidently brought out by the variation of phases in different zones of the reacted substrate, MS2 (even MS1).…”

“…Goto and coworkers [11] have found that CaO-Al 2 O 3 -SiO 2 slag penetrated into MgO-MgOAEAl 2 O 3 spinel bricks could lead to the formation of secondary spinel, CaMgSiO 4 , Ca 3 MgSi 2 O 8 , and MgO as microscopic corrosion products. Recently, aluminum oxide as an addition was added into MgO-C refractory by Ganesh et al [12,13] They found that refractories containing in situ spinel improved ceramic bonding and corrosion resistance. Some studies [14][15][16] have also been conducted to investigate the corrosion mechanism in the MgO-Al 2 O 3 refractories.…”

“…Durante la utilización de estos materiales, tienen lugar reacciones que involucran al corindón, la periclasa y el aluminio, fundamentalmente en la fracción fina, que dan lugar a la formación de espinela (MgAl 2 O 4 ) por diversos mecanismos (14)(15)(16)(17). Esta reacción está acompañada de procesos de expansión que pueden contrarrestar el desgaste en las juntas entre los ladrillos refractarios.…”

“…[18,19] In recent years the composition of high-duty MgO-C bricks has been improved, especially in terms of the binders and additives used for better thermo-mechanical properties under ecological and economical aspects. By using artificial resins -as alternative environmental friendly products against tar pitch bonded products -a higher isotropic glassy phase with lower oxidation resistance and more brittle bonding is obtained.…”
