Tanacetum vulgare is an herbaceous plant widely used in folk medicine. It is rich in phenolic acids and flavonoids, which have pharmacological and medicinal properties, such as anthelmintic, antispasmodic, tonic, antidiabetic, diuretic, and antihypertensive. This study aimed to confirm the presence of biologically active substances in Tanacetum vulgare and to determine the pharmacological spectrum of biological activity of Tanacetum vulgare extract components. When preparing Tanacetum vulgare extracts, the highest yield was observed when using the maceration method with a mixture of solvents methanol + trifluoroacetic acid (22.65 ± 0.68%). The biologically active substances in Tanacetum vulgare extract samples were determined using high-performance liquid chromatography. Biologically active substances such as luteolin-7-glucoside (550.80 mg/kg), chlorogenic acid (5945.40 mg/kg), and rosmarinic acid (661.31 mg/kg) were identified. Their structures were determined. The experiments have confirmed the antioxidant and antibacterial activities. Secondary metabolites of Tanacetum vulgare extracts have been found to have previously unknown biological activity types; experimental confirmation of their existence will advance phytochemical research and lead to the development of new drugs.

The purpose of the research conducted was to define the impact of the various aqueous extract concentrations, prepared from the dried (in concentrations 2%, 5% and 10%) and fresh (in concentrations 10%, 20% and 30%) tansy (Tanacetum vulgare L.) mass, on the feeding of pea leaf weevil (Sitona lineatus L.), and the mortality rate of black bean aphid (Aphis fabae Scop.). The studies showed that in order to limit the feeding of pea leaf weevils considerably, it is necessary to use at least 5% extract of the dried tansy mass or 20% extract of the fresh tansy mass. The impeding effect on the feeding of pea leaf weevils was correlated positively with the extract concentration. The insecticide effect of the aqueous extract of tansy on black bean aphid was revealed not earlier than after 12 hours with the use of at least 20% extract of the fresh tansy mass and 5% extract of the dried mass (only in relation to aphid larvae). Nevertheless, the extracts of lower concentration also demonstrated the insecticide effectiveness although delayed (36-60 hours after the application). As compared to other studies conducted according to the same methodology, it was demonstrated that the tansy aqueous extracts are characteristic for a high deterrent activity in relation to the pea leaf weevil beetles (higher than the extracts of absinthe and similar to the extracts of pepper mint and sage) and a quite high aphicidal activity (higher effectiveness than in the case of the aqueous extracts of lemon balm but lower than the extracts of tarragon and absinthe).

The studies were conduct in 2012-2018 on meadow chernozem soil in the conditions of the south of Western Siberia. The purpose of the study was to study the effect of zinc and copper fertilizers on the chemical composition of perennial medicinal plants in the zonal soil-climatic conditions of Western Siberia. The objects of study were Achillea millefolium L., Tanacetum vulgare L. and Echinacea purpurea L. Zinc and copper fertilizers were applied in MAC fractions: 0.25, 0.50, 0.75, and 1.0 on the grounds N135P45K45 (A. millefolium, T. vulgare) and N125 (E. purpurea). The use of zinc and copper fertilizers in the main application for the studied medicinal crops contributed to an increase in the accumulation of mobile forms of zinc and copper in the medicinal raw materials. On average, over the years of research in experiments with A. millefolium, T. vulgare, E. purpurea, each kg of Zn fertilizers increased the Zn content in plants by 0.30 and 0.38, Cu - by 0.07, 0.05 and 0.03 mg / kg; while 1 kg of fertilizer added by Cu increased the Cu content by 0.47, 0.07 and 0.23, Zn by 1.40, 2.32 and 1.26 mg / kg, respectively. A synergistic relationship has been establish between the elements of Zn↔Cu and Cu↔Zn.
