“…Future studies will be needed to determine the biological significance of this interaction. However, these data raise the possibility of a MyD88-mediated negative feedback loop that ensures that innate immunity is self limiting (Figure 7); this could be relevant to sepsis, cancer, and the myriad of other diseases with an inflammatory component [84].…”

“…Inflammation has been implicated as a causative factor in nearly all chronic diseases. 22 From an evolutionary perspective, the body's inflammatory response was vital for survival before modern sanitation processes (water purification, sewage systems, and the recognition of hygiene issues such as hand washing). Today, we live longer, and thus inflammatory responses are more likely to confuse and overwhelm the body's defense systems.…”

“…120 It is increasingly recognized that the real issue in health care-lifestyleshould become the primary prescription for the leading causes of disease that result in the highest rates of mortality. [4][5][6][7]9,22 The slow progress in decreasing mortality rates from CVD incriminates an unhealthy diet and a sedentary lifestyle as major contributing factors. 121 Ample evidence exists to support the avocation of a diet on the basis of the recommendations outlined in Table 1.…”
