Niemiecki dyskurs polityczny wokół "powrotu do natury" w kontekście umieralności niemowląt (początek XX wieku)Na przełomie XIX i XX wieku populacja Rzeszy Niemieckiej weszła na tory transformacji demograficznej. Kierunki przemian wpisywały się w powszechny model przejścia 1 od tzw. reprodukcji rozrzutnej do oszczędnej; najpierw, od połowy lat osiemdziesiątych XIX stulecia, zarysował się powolny, acz trwały spadek umieralności, następnie, od początku XX stulecia, wystąpiła szybko postępująca redukcja poziomu rozrodczości, którą, z racji niepokojącego współcze-snych obserwatorów tempa, okrzyknięto regresem urodzeń. Choć pomiędzy 1871 a 1913 rokiem relatywna liczba zgonów liczona bez martwych urodzeń obniżyła się z 26‰ do 15‰, w czym pierwszoplanową rolę odegrał spadek umieralności dzieci w wieku do lat pięciu, szczególnie zaś niemowląt (w latach 1871-1880 na 100 urodzeń żywych przypadało 23,4 zgonu dzieci, które nie ukończyły pierwszego roku życia, a w latach [1906][1907][1908][1909][1910]

The article was prepared on the basis of the query in Polish as well as German printed and archival sources: research papers, contributions, monographs, historical studies and statistical lexicons, including most of all voluminous series of Royal Prussian Statistical Office in Berlin and publications of Imperial Statistical Office of German Reich. The article describes results of statistical research performed by Prussian Offices concerning Polish lands under Prussian rule, Poles in the Prussian census and urban statistics of cities of Wroclaw, Berlin and Poznan as well as Polish statisticians acting in Prussia and Polish scientific societies under Prussian partition dealing with economic research. The literature on the subject was also analysed and the usefulness of Prussian statistics in historical research (especially on demography and economic issues) in relation to the development of Polish lands under Prussian rule was evaluated.
