“…It was the purpose of this investigation (1) to observe the effects of the anterior pituitary gland implants on the gonads and gonaducts; and (2) to observe the effects of estradiol benzoate, an estrogenic derivative of the ovarian follicle, on the same organs in both sexes of the newly metamorphosed frog, Rana pipiens. Burns, in 1930, demonstrated that young larvae of Amblystoma tigrinum responded to pituitary treatment by a decided hypertrophy of the testes accompanied by germ cell maturation. After metamorphosis, the precocious production of maturation stages almost up to mature sperm was observed.…”
