The Indium Borate In19B34O74(OH)11 with T2 Supertetrahedra

Abstract: The trigonal indium borate InBO(OH) was synthesized in a Walker-type multianvil apparatus under high-pressure/high-temperature conditions of 13 GPa and 1150 °C. The crystal structure could be determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction data collected at room temperature. InBO(OH) crystallizes in the trigonal space group R3̅ (Z = 3) with the lattice parameters a = 1802.49(6) pm, c = 1340.46(5) pm, and V = 3.7716(3) nm. The structure of InBO(OH) contains alternating B-O T2 supertetrahedra units. The presence … Show more

“…The M −O bond lengths in the octahedra of Ga2 and In2 are hence slightly longer as in the regular Ga1 and In1 octahedra, respectively. With average interatomic distances of 1.97 and 2.15 Å and individual values ranging from 1.909(2)– 2.065(2) Å for Ga1 and 2.069(2)–2.247(2) Å for In1, the distances are in good agreement with those reported in the literature 3b, 4b, 6, 8. The distorted octahedra exhibit with 2.10 and 2.36 Å larger average distances and also quite uncommon maximal lengths of 2.307(2) Å for Ga2 and 2.748(2) Å for In2.…”

“…Lin and co‐workers showed an activity of roughly 30 μmol h −1  g −1 for Pt‐loaded TiO 2 11. Compared to other recently published borates of the 13th group of the periodic table, the herein described In 5 B 12 O 25 (OH) shows a high hydrogen evolution rate even without commonly employed co‐catalysts, such as Ni, Pt, or Ru 2, 4b, 5, 6, 12…”

“…Recently, this large B 4 O 10 tetrahedron was experimentally found for the first time by Wu et al in a borosilicate, Cs 2 B 4 SiO 9 (# 425583-ICSD), which has NLO properties in the deep-ultraviolet range [70]. In 2016, the 4B-group known as "supertetrahedron" was found in the new indium borate In 19 B 34 O 74 (OH) 11 , synthesized under high-pressure/high-temperature conditions by Huppertz et al [71]. Furthermore, it is worth noting that In 19 B 34 O 74 (OH) 11 is the first borate containing a supertetrahedron unit.…”

“…In 2010, this distinctive structure feature was found in H 2 InB 5 O 10 . In 2016, our group presented In 19 B 34 O 74 (OH) 11 , solely containing BO 4 groups, whereby the compound additionally exhibits an exceptional, supertetrahedral structure motif . Like In 19 B 34 O 74 (OH) 11 , the indium borate In 3 B 5 O 12 , reported shortly afterwards, also contains BO 4 units .…”
