The Importance of Thermal Insulation: Characteristics, Properties and Applications

Abstract: Abstract-hermal insulation is used to ensure that there is no loss or gain of heat in a medium, and therefore must be very well chosen considering the properties, applications and costs. It is used for protection, prevention, comfort and economy. The choice of insulation, the thickness and the method of application are extremely important to obtain good technical and economic results. The objective of the present article was to compile characteristics and properties of thermal insulation, exposing its applicat… Show more

“…Thermal insulations ensure the medium is free from heat gain or heat loss. 1 In buildings, a large amount of energy is generally consumed in heating and cooling equipment to maintain the temperature, producing a lot of greenhouse gases. 2 Global warming due to the greenhouse effect, including 45% CO 2 emission due to the construction and building industry, predicts that the temperature of surface throughout the world may increase from 1.1 to 6.4 C by 2100.…”
