The Importance of Posture And Body Composition for the Stability and Selected Motor Abilities of Professional Handball Players

Abstract: The aim of the research was to analyze body composition, body posture and postural stability of professional male handball players and to determine the differences between players with correct and incorrect body posture, considering power of the lower limbs and agility, speed, and change of direction deficit. The study comprised 16 professional handball players. Body composition analysis was performed using the method of electrical bioimpedance. Body posture was examined using the Diers formetric III 4D optoel… Show more

“…Results were digitally displayed after the measurement. The sagittal spinal posture of participants was measured using the Formetric 4D System (Diers, Schlangenbad, Germany), belonging to a group of non-invasive methods for diagnosing postural status, previously utilized in research [17][18][19]. The diagnostic method relied on photometry, based on the principle of triangulation.…”

“…Extreme specialisation (excessive practice of specific techniques) in sports such as fencing or canoeing can induce strong preferences for one side of the body and create asymmetric balance patterns [ 17 , 18 ]. Also, in team games like hockey or handball asymmetrical positions are often assumed what could affects body posture and its stability [ 17 , 19 ]. It is worth to know that some asymmetry level is also observed in population studies [ 20 , 21 ].…”
