The positive effects of green infrastructure in the urban environment are nowadays widely known and proven by research. Yet, greening, which serves to improve the indoor climate and people’s well-being, is integrated very limited in public facilities such as schools. Reasons for this are seen in a lack of knowledge and financing opportunities. A focus, among others, of the MehrGrüneSchulen research project is the interdisciplinary development of cost-effective greening solutions for schools. The designs were developed in close collaboration with students of a technical college (HTL) and a horticultural school. This study describes the development process and presents the results of the first implementations of greening systems at the HTL-building complex and at nine other schools in Austria.

The concept of "Green University Campus" is used in a more general sense to refer to social, economic, environmental, and educational aspects. In order to assist in directing sustainability initiatives among educational institutions, this study will discuss the progressive green university campus maturity assessment instrument and framework. In order to help universities and colleges build more environmentally friendly campuses, this study analyses the ecocity theory and examines the consequences of its suggested usage in higher education. The study looks at prior attempts at sustainability and shows how the idea of an eco-campus can be used effectively and practically. Plans for sustainability and the "Green Campus" concept are present at most Malaysian universities. On college campuses, sustainability and turning green are topics that are becoming more and more popular. In Malaysia's higher education system, a strategic framework is required as a road map for developing green campuses. This study employs compliance plans and methods to monitor and manage environmentally sustainable indicators and categories. It was determined to evaluate the performance of each model in relation to achieving sustainability goals.

Ever since the first establishment of the public school (primary and secondary school) in Malaysia, the building design for most of the schools is almost the same until now. Public school for primary and secondary education is based on a standard layout designed by the Malaysian Public Works Department. Evolution of varieties education system employed by the schools does not affect the physical design of school. The emergence of awareness on sustainability and promotion towards green way of life has made it crucial for designer to rethink the best design for school in enhancing its environment that could be the “third teacher” to the pupils. The research attempt to explore design criteria of green school in Malaysia based on the critical elements of green initiatives. Recommendation of green/eco school design will be presented based on site and building planning, climate and green technology application
