This article investigates the impact of export product diversification, extensive margin and intensive margin on emerging economies energy demand covering the period from 1971 to 2014. The study contributes to energy economics by unveiling the interaction between export diversification and energy demand of 10 newly industries countries (NICs). Owing to the growth prospect and trade volume of these nations, it is necessary to assess the various facades of export growth on the energy demand. In this pursuit, we have considered the export product diversification index in its aggregate and disaggregated forms (i.e. extensive margin and intensive margin) in this study. The empirical estimation has been carried out based on GMM, FGLS, FMOLS, and DOLS techniques. The empirical results demonstrate that export diversification, extensive margin, and intensive margin help to reduce the overall energy demand in NICs. Further, the empirical outcomes identify that economic growth, urbanization, and natural resources increase energy consumption. The study discusses fruitful policy implications regarding the exports diversification and energy demand nexus for emerging economies.

Continuous contamination of the environment with xenobiotics and related recalcitrant compounds has emerged as a serious pollution threat. Bioremediation is the key to eliminating persistent contaminants from the environment. Traditional bioremediation processes show limitations, therefore it is necessary to discover new bioremediation technologies for better results. In this review we provide an outlook of alternative strategies for bioremediation via synthetic biology, including exploring the prerequisites for analysis of research data for developing synthetic biological models of microbial bioremediation. Moreover, cell coordination in synthetic microbial community, cell signaling, and quorum sensing as engineered for enhanced bioremediation strategies are described, along with promising gene editing tools for obtaining the host with target gene sequences responsible for the degradation of recalcitrant compounds. The synthetic genetic circuit and two-component regulatory system (TCRS)-based microbial biosensors for detection and bioremediation are also briefly explained. These developments are expected to increase the efficiency of bioremediation strategies for best results.

This study evaluates the impact of the provision of long-term credit (LTC) on the growth of small and young firms in developing countries. The growth of firms is evaluated on the basis of employment growth and total sales. Credit provisions have also been collected from the short-and LTC extended to the private sector. This study uses data on firm levels from more than 19000 firms in 52 countries between 2006-2016. In order to avoid the endogeneity issues that usually occur in such studies, this study has implemented a crosscountry model to evaluate the significance of total bank credit, both long-and short-term, on the growth of sales and employment. The econometric results indicate that the availability of short-term credit (STC) is more beneficial for the growth of the firms, i.e. STC was found to have a significant impact on employment growth and sales in small and young firms. Although positive, LTC seemed to have no significance in the growth of the small and young firms. This study suggests that the prime reason behind these results is the availability of long-term loans for small and young firms.
