Abstract: Fieldwork for the Diet and Nutrition Survey of Infants and Young Children (DNSIYC) was carried out during 2011 to provide detailed quantitative information on food and nutrient intakes, nutrient sources and nutritional status of a representative sample of infants aged 4-18 months in the UK. “…The mean intakes for weighed and estimated methods were found to be very similar. Perhaps surprisingly the majority of parents in this small sample ( n 50) said they preferred the weighed method as they felt it was more accurate; however, this was a sample of volunteers who agreed to keep a 4-d weighed diary and therefore are unlikely to be a representative sample of the population ( 14 ) .
