This paper examines the effect of leadership style on entrepreneurial success in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) operating in the food and beverages sector in Nigeria. The study aims to shed light on the relationship between leadership style and key indicators of entrepreneurial success, including profitability, revenue growth, market share, product/service innovation, and customer satisfaction. A sample of 1000 SME owners in the food and beverages sector was hypothetically considered for the analysis. The literature review provides a comprehensive overview of the relevant theoretical perspectives and empirical studies on leadership styles and entrepreneurial success. Transformational leadership, transactional leadership, and laissez-faire leadership are identified as the primary leadership styles of interest. The literature suggests that transformational leadership, characterized by inspirational vision, employee motivation, and innovation stimulation, is positively associated with entrepreneurial success indicators. Transactional leadership, emphasizing task-oriented directives and performance rewards, is expected to have a more limited but positive impact on specific indicators, such as customer satisfaction. In contrast, laissez-faire leadership, characterized by a passive or hands-off approach, is generally considered ineffective in driving entrepreneurial success. The proposed methodology involves the use of a survey instrument to collect data on leadership style and entrepreneurial success indicators from the sample of SME owners. The survey instrument will include validated scales to measure leadership styles and a combination of objective and subjective measures to assess entrepreneurial success indicators. The data will be analyzed using statistical techniques, including correlation analysis and regression analysis, to examine the relationships between leadership styles and entrepreneurial success. The anticipated results will provide insights into the extent to which different leadership styles impact entrepreneurial success in SMEs operating in the food and beverages sector in Nigeria. The findings can inform SME owners, managers, and policymakers on the most effective leadership approaches to adopt in order to enhance entrepreneurial success. The study's contributions to the existing body of knowledge and its implications for practice and policy will be discussed in detail. Finally, recommendations for SME owners will be provided based on the findings to guide them in effectively utilizing leadership styles to drive entrepreneurial success in the food and beverages sector in Nigeria.

The difference between developed and developing societies could also be captured in the area of engineering innovations for human-center development. Engineering is one of the drivers of sustainable development in the world; it has substantial impacts on building and sustaining human capital. Nigeria, like other developing societies, is confronted with challenges of utilizing human resources maximally for her national development. Hence, this paper investigates engineering and human capacity building as the flexibility of innovation in human capital development in Nigeria. This study applied a theoretical method; information was sourced through secondary means like content analysis journals, textbooks, and electronic resources. This study anchor on modernization, human capital, and scientific management theories. Findings showed that apart from the purely academic angle, Nigeria has no made outstanding progress in the area of training and institutional support. The paper recommends broad-based engineering applications in every facet of human capital. This will attract foreign investors to the economy, and the local ones can use their technical skills to ensure maximum utilization of resources through engineering techniques. As the World Federation of Engineers is sustaining pressures on the engineering body among the member states. Nigeria cannot afford to be isolated in the area of sound engineering training. This paper will be useful to the International Labour Organisation, World Federation of Engineers, ministries of employment and capacity development, National Directorates of Employment, the Nigerian Consultative Council and researchers in the field of Human Resources and engineering management could initiate research from here.

Entrepreneurial finance models for born-global SMEs in Nigeria

The main aim of this research is to critically analyse the impact of entrepreneurial finance models (EFM) on the outcome and performance of Born-global Small and Medium Enterprises (BG SMEs). The study questions the impact of EFMs obtained on the profitability, social return on investment, and firm structure of BG SMEs in Nigeria. This research focuses on a unique type of SMEs described as BG SMEs. Using a positivist philosophical approach that is centred on objectivity and a quantitative methodology, the research collected data using questionnaires. A total of 1100 SMEs were contacted, and 237 BG SMEs were identified from that list which has been used as the representative sample size of this research. The data collected through the survey was analysed using Ordinal Logistic Regression (OLR) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). The research presents five (5) key findings: 1. Independent venture capital (IVC), Philanthropic Venture Capital (PhVC), Corporate Venture Capital (CVC), Government Grant (GG), Bank, Business Angels (BA), Crowdfunding and Accelerators have a positive impact on one or more metrics of BG SMEs’ profitability; 2. Crowdfunding, Banks, Government Venture Capital (GVC), GG, Accelerators, PhVC, CVC, and BA have a statistically significant impact on the firm structure of BG SMEs leading to a change in their management and board compositions; 3. Management experience has a moderating positive influence on the relationship of IVC, PhVC, CVC, Banks, GG, and Accelerators and one or more metrics of BG SMEs’ profitability, whilst also having a moderating influence on Crowdfunding, Accelerators, GVC, CVC, and GG interactions with BG SMEs’ firm structure leading to their change in management and board compositions; 4. Firm Size has a moderating positive effect on EFMs (Crowdfunding, IVC, PhVC, CVC, Bank, GG, and Accelerators) relationship with BG SMEs' profitability whilst also influencing the relationship between EFMs (Crowdfunding, GVC, CVC, Accelerators, and IVC) and the firm structure of BG SMEs; and 5. The findings support the research hypotheses, and it was seen that different EFMs had different levels of impact on BG SMEs which was consistent with the research expectations. All BG SMEs analysed in this research do not measure their SROI despite 46% of the sample size creating some form of social value. The study contributes to knowledge by combining the agency theory with the human capital theory to identify the elements, value additions, impact, and influence of the different EFMs on BG SMEs. The results show the important interrelations between both theories and how BG firm performance could be improved by addressing the underlying ideas of the theories. The outcome of this research thesis has implications for policy and practice. The findings in this research indicate that the type of EFM obtained can impact the profitability and firm structure of BG SMEs in Nigeria. Business owners can address their external funding requirements by utilizing the right finance. Accessing the right EFM can help BG SMEs be more sustainable, thus, reducing the failure rate of these firms. The application of the findings in this study can directly and indirectly lead to the success of the BG SMEs which could invariably lead to economic growth in the region. The more businesses that are successful the more sustainable jobs are created, tax remittance to the government is maintained/improved, and the innovations as outputs of these BG SMEs will support their local communities and other businesses.
