“…Interestingly, the paper underlined that only a few of the adopted development strategies might be considered effective in meeting the challenges of CE according to the EU's standards (Mazur-Wierzbicka 2021). Regarding the relationship between CE and SDGs, this paper goes in the same direction as a recent study, whose findings provide policymakers with relevant insights into the consequences of policies that promote the CE, above all on the difference in outcomes depending on prominent CE fields such as renewable energy, reuse, repair, and recycling (Knäble et al 2022). Findings also comply with the suggestions of a recent study analyzing the relationship between waste management policies and CE goals, which suggests that policymakers should urgently focus on such policy implications (D'Adamo et al 2022).…”

“…The theoretical framework introduced by Pearce and Turner evolved into a study of the principles and modeling of the circular economy that can be applied at various levels, such as the micro-level at the household area, the meso-level at the industrial area, and the macro-level in municipal, provincial, and national regions (Ghisellini et al, 2016). Subsequently, the circular economy has grown to become an essential part of sustainable development efforts (Knäble et al, 2022).…”

“…In the current world situation, characterized by urgent and great challenges such as climate change, over‐consumption of resources (Hickel et al, 2022; Marin‐Beltran et al, 2022) and social inequality (Schröder et al, 2020; Inigo & Blok, 2019), the transition to a circular economy (CE) is expected to change the dominant neoliberal (linear) model of economy and society (Galindo‐Martin et al, 2021; Murray et al, 2017) and contribute to a more sustainable development (De Lima, 2022; Knäble et al, 2022). The pandemic has further acquired the need for adopting economic models more environmentally and socially sustainable (Clube & Tennant, 2023; Ghisellini et al, 2023a; Ceraulo, 2021).…”

“…In this context, the CE has mainly born in response to reduce the impacts of human activities on the natural environment (Megevand et al, 2022; Mazur‐Wierzbicka, 2021). However, the increasing recognition of the strict connection between the ecological and social crisis (Giraud et al, 2023) as well as the CE potential of contributing to the pursuit of sustainable development (Knäble et al, 2022; Terra dos Santos et al, 2022) requires that CE model aligns to all the three dimensions of sustainability (Evans, 2023).…”
