The market model of the Russian power industry that currently exists is facing trends and challenges, such as rising electricity prices for end-consumers, rising tariffs for power transmission services and sales mark-ups, the complexity and high cost of technological connection to power grids and capacity expansion, as well as increase in cross-subsidisation.At the same time, the energy industry is influenced by external factors caused by a number of technological changes that have matured in Russia and in the world, such as the transition from electric energy production at large power plants to the use of distributed generators (including those using renewable energy sources (RES), an increase in the final price on electricity due to growth in demand, as well as the transformation of the spread and reduction in the cost of generator techniques with the use of renewable energy sources, technologies for energy storage systems, as well as the development of smart metering systems.In turn, cutting-edge technologies of the electric power industry not only lead to positive economic effects when implemented separately, they reveal the fullest range of effects and lead to the emergence of new models of interaction in the retail market if their interaction is coordinated by Industry 4.0 digital technologies. Thus, the combined influence of digital transition technologies in the electric power industry forms the prerequisites for the emergence of a new type of consumer of electric power – an active consumer.The purpose of this study is to analyse the factors influencing the adoption of these technologies by retail market entities and the effectiveness of their implementation, as well as the formation of a target retail market concept that takes into account the introduction of active consumers and has the potential to create direct and indirect economic effects for energy industry entities.

Green Innovation’s Promoting Impact on the Fusion of Industry and Talent: The Case of Pharmaceutical Industry in the Yangtze River Economic Belt of China

This study aims to explore the promoting impact of green innovation on the fusion of industry and talent (FIT). The primary objectives of the study also include showing how FIT affects the Yangtze River Economic Belt of China and evaluating the development status of three subsystems: the pharmaceutical industry, talent support, and green innovation. In this study, an index system comprising 28 indicators is established to characterize the three subsystems, based on which a comprehensive evaluation model is used to assess the development of each subsystem. A fusion model is used to explore the current status of FIT and the role that green innovation plays in this, based on panel data obtained for 11 provinces and cities in the Yangtze River Economic Belt from 2010 to 2019. The results suggest that: (1) the three subsystems in the Belt have all maintained growth, though the development score for the pharmaceutical industry fluctuated greatly and has been somewhat unstable, while growth trends for talent support and green innovation have been stable; (2) the extent of FIT is low, with nearly half of the provinces and cities lacking organization, with a typical spatial pattern of higher levels in the downstream region and lower levels in the upstream region. The downstream region has obvious advantages in the degree of FIT, while the upstream region has a more optimistic growth trend; and (3) green innovation stimulated the development of FIT in the Belt, with a “strong and stronger” trend depending on the foundation of FIT. To promote FIT, the government should (1) focus on enhancing the development and efficiency of green innovation to help promote FIT; (2) promote the stable and sustainable growth of the pharmaceutical industry as well as talent’s support to consolidate the foundation of fusion; and (3) implement regional coordinated development and interaction policies to narrow the regional gap.

This research aims to substantiate the impact of using open innovation (OI) in the energy sector in readiness to implement artificial intelligence (AI) technologies and their effectiveness. The empirical method was proposed to determine the readiness level of OI for the implementation of AI technologies by comparing Russian and French energy companies. Readiness level indicators of companies for AI implementation using the Fibonacci sequence, Student’s t-test, and the method of fuzzy sets were empirically determined. The integrated readiness indicator for AI implementation by companies was calculated using the method of fuzzy sets and expressed through variance, allowing for these significant factors. Russian companies are at a low level of developmental readiness to implement AI, which is in contrast to companies operating in a developed market where the determining factor is the AI technology cost. The example of the innovative business model “Energy-as-a-Service” shows the synergistic effects of OI use and AI technology introduction. This paper is novel because it seeks to contribute to the current debate in the literature, justifying the position that energy companies that have in the past actively applied the concept of open innovation in business, are the most competitive and most efficient in implementing AI technologies.
