The Impact of Sustainability Goals on Productivity Growth: The Moderating Role of Global Warming

Abstract: The objective of this paper was to gain novel insights into the complex relationships among Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in shaping productivity (GDP/capita) growth. Using dynamic panel regressions on data collected in 138 countries between 2000 and 2017, we found that rising temperatures negatively affect growth and mitigate the impact of other SDGs on growth. We also found that CO2 emissions have a U-shaped relationship with growth; life expectancy negatively influences growth (positively moderated b… Show more

“…The goal of Máté et al [ 12 ] was to learn new things about the intricate connections between Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and how they affect GDP/capita and productivity. Rising temperatures have a detrimental effect on growth and lessen the effect of other SDGs.…”

“…Besides targeted climate mitigation policies, a direct implementation of the SDGs into policy frameworks was found to allow a more rapid cut in CO 2 emissions [156]. According to [157], productivity growth and CO 2 emissions have a U-shaped relationship, with growth reaching a minimum point and then starting to increase again while CO 2 emissions are rising. The impact of agroforestry was found to be stronger mostly against SDGs 2, 11, 13, and 15 [112].…”

“…The outcome variable of our research is high-quality development. We referred to some research results and used firm total factor productivity (TFP) as an agent of firm high-quality development [7,[43][44][45][46][47]. This is due to the fact that the steady improvement in total factor productivity is the most critical connotation of achieving firm high-quality development.…”
