“…This finding is consistent with results from previous research that found professionals with rural upbringings were more likely to practice in a rural area 10, 17, 28 . A meta‐analysis reported that students with rural experiences were four times as likely to practice in a rural area than those without rural experiences 28 . It has been shown that when dental students were required to have a rural experiential experience, they were more likely to become indifferent to positions in rural areas [29]. Colleges of pharmacy may collaborate with rural hospitals and pharmacies to bring practitioners to campus so students can hear the students.…”

“…The limited number of identified studies in this review (11 studies) supports a recent 2016 meta‐analysis addressing rural exposure strategies in dentistry, which identified only seven studies. In this review, studies identified were mainly from Australia (6 studies) with the remaining ones from South Africa, USA, India and Thailand.…”

“…However, the evidence in this review indicates that well‐designed, financially supported programmes, with the provision of a valuable clinical experience, good supervisors, a positive experience and professional support are essential and likely lead to increased intentions to work rurally. This supports the recent findings of Suphanchaimat et al who reported that addressing the shortage of dental professionals in rural areas is a multifactorial problem.…”
