The impact of research on the understanding and management of the diabetic Charcot foot

Podiatrists' contribution to the care of the diabetic foot may not be understood by all health-care professionals. This paper describes the specific role of the podiatrist in multiprofessional diabetic foot care, and summarizes the pathogenesis and clinical features of the diabetic foot. Non-invasive assessments and the podiatric management of the ulcerated and non-ulcerated diabetic foot are outlined.
